RED - movie review

Saturday night is my movie night with hubby and last week we decided to go watch RED.
Red stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous but it could just as well stand for 'really enjoyable diversion':)

This is the movie with a bunch of megastars with names like Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker.

It's an action comedy.I'm telling you.... if you are planning to watch a movie this weekend..please..please consider this one. Very entertaining:) and..it has a little bit of romance between Bruce and Mary, quite interesting to see Bruce willis in these scenes:)

Bruce willis may not one of those drop dead handsome, but I've always consider him as one of those with nice build, and you can see that in this movie..he looks a bit old now..but still look good for his age:))

The movie is about a retired CIA agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) was instructed to be killed by an anonymous in CIA itself and he began to gather his old team to find out why they are being targeted by killers.

Overall..it's entertaining and I give this movie 2 thumbs up!!!!

Carbo blocker

pics : google

Well...I'm trying very hard to shed the extra fat gained during raya. I even completed my Nike RUN and Mizuno RUN in 2 consecutive weeks...on top of it..I also took carbo blocker.!!

Sadly to say...all seems doesnt work on me...huwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrgghhh!!!!

Basically I just want to share with your peeps..in case anybody is considering taking this carbo blocker..my advice is : DONT BOTHER...it's not working at least for me..reason being..I dont normally plan my meal..I snack in between.. ..and this pill you have to take 30 mins before your meal. Most of the time I'm too hungry to wait 30 mins for the pills to start working, as a result it's gone to waste

Now...since I've already bought, by hook or by crook I feel obligated to finish this..and it cost me RM150 a bottle for the supply of 1 month.

happy weekends peeps!!!

Reminiscing good old days

The other day, I had a gathering with ex-housemates. Then, we started reminiscing all the silly things we had done..

among others, of course my clumsiness...

Then we commuted to office by public transport (fresh-grad, couldnt afford to even by a kancil) and since my office was no where near LRT station, i had to take a bus..

One morning, I was late..and the rest had left earlier.....so I had to walked to the bus stand alone, on my way there..I saw this van full of passengers..one of them, sticking her head out, calling and waving to her friend at the bus stand..I was like... "duhhhh...is it necessary to shout, pick up the phone laaa...tu pun nak save ke..jerit2 pagi2 ni" in my "merak" mode (merak a.k.a sombong/angkuh..or anything seangkatan dengannya) then right after that...doooiiiiinggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...I walked into a stop sign........dammmnnnn!!
immediately I stopped walking and waited for the bus right there and then.....I must be crazy to walk ahead... as people were looking towards me since the bus would be coming from my direction....damn!!! maluuuu...terus stop...tunggu bas kat situ.....eeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii and these people were the same regular one waiting for the bus everyday with me...

well...i didnt tell my friends immediately...it took weeks to finally share that embarassing moment:(

oooohh btw,..I wanted to share my friend's silly story (she will read this, and I'm sure I will get a scolding..hi jern!!! *waving hand*).. we had a neighbour then..a good looking and rich young guy who happened to stay there, the house belongs to the parents who' lived outside of KL..so he stayed with a brother..all of us sort of going gaga over this particular neighbor (the brother already had a girlfriend, hence the reason we're soooo into this one) ..so one fateful evening after numerous so-called impromptu meet-up at the elevator..this friend of mine braced herself to create a conversation.

Pretty gal : hi!!
hensome guy : hello!
Pretty gal : you kerja mana?
Handsome guy : dunlop
Pretty gal : ooo...dunlop pillow tu yg buat bantal tidur tu????? (with excitement .....thinking how brilliantly she can relate dunlop and the pillow)
handsome guy : 00000hh..nooooooo.....dunlop tyre

erkkk....well I guess..that must be the turn-off event for the handsome guy....there goes our chance...habisssssss licin, ......he must be thinking...hmm not so brilliant those girls, since they were so close..they must be of the same kind:(

To you..Jern..you have dashed our chance..... on that fateful evening.

Pasta Olio

I guess the after effects from the running made us ridiculously hungry and crave for carbs, Last weekend, after the Nike Run, we had been eating carbo a lot...we were hungry most of the time..I guess it really built up our metabolism rate. Since, we had rice during the day, I thought we should not take rice again for dinner, plus we need to replace for slightly healthier carbo loading, so I think OLIO with olive oil should be okaayyyy:) of course carbs being carbs it should not be in my diet:(

I have problem looking for chilli flakes/red pepper flakes like the one in the above photo (this, I got from Domino's..everytime I ordered pizza, i will request for extra chilli flakes) the normal one I found in our local store, very finely chopped and it doesn't look nice.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 packet of pasta
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • prawn
  • Green pepper and celery (cut up)
  • Chilli flakes /red pepper flakes
  • salt
  • 2 teaspoon of fresh squeeze lemon juice

Directions

  1. Cook pasta al dente. Drain and put aside
  2. Put the olive oil and the garlic in a large pan over a medium heat.
  3. When the garlic begins to change color add the prawn...stir.....then add salt and lemon juice
  4. Stir well and add green pepper and celery.
  5. Add pasta.
  6. Toss until the pasta is well coated with sauce.
  7. Serve and sprinkle chilli flakes on top

dah siap..it's really easy peasy:)

Tamarind Hill

it's next to menara KFC, Jalan sultan Ismail in front of life centre

The parking lot, just next to the stairs.

the stairs, taking from the restaurant's entrance

I was very much dissapointed when I tried to book a dinner slot with hubby on his birthday @Tamarind Hill and found out the restaurant ceased operations at their original Ampang outlet, the place meant so much as it was where hubby popped the question (well not really a proposal, he gave me a ring, when I asked for what..he was nervous and told me..it's nothing..just a ring..duhhhh!!!)

You need to walk up this stairs to get the restaurant, it's on the hill

NEO - another restaurant you will find on your way up to Tamarind Hill

the view from the restaurant, the buildings along Jalan Sultan Ismail.

but they've now found a new location right smack in the city centre.

Earlier on, I was a bit sceptical to go to this new spot as it might not be as nice as the previous one, where it was a well renovated old bungalow surrounded by the exotic big trees...

but the new place is not dissapointing as well. If you are looking for a makan place in the city centre surrounded by trees..this is it...the setting is romantic and cozy with dim light..I was told every valentines' day this place is fully booked a month in advance.

Butter prawn
Deep fried Grouper with sauce

Kailan

Beef - couldnt remember exactly the name, but it taste like steak with green curry sauce

The seafood tomyam with tiger prawn - GLORIOUS according to hubby:)

You have the option either to stay indoor or outdoor, mind you..at night you might be bitten by mosquito..but fret not..they will provide the mosquito coil:)

we are very satisfied with the food..it's yummy and you will feel it's worth to splurge once in a while for a special occasion, especially when it's my birthday:)

To get there, turn left right before Menara KFC on Jalan Sultan Ismail. You will see steps leading up to the restaurant on the hill

Enjoy some of the photos..I managed to snap last night..of course hubby wasnt too approving when I was busy taking photos especially at a fine dining place.

Sayonara to NIKE

NOTE : this entry is in FURIOUS MODE, dont spoil your monday..!

NIKE run yesterday was my last support towards NIKE brand seriously...both my husband and I decided that we do not want to contribute our hard earned money to the company which doesn't take their customers seriously, plus..ADIDAS has a wide range of sports gear and REEBOK also not bad in inventing good sports shoes

We know NIKE will not feel the pinch in even the slightest manner..but at least I know from now on..they will no longer be my family's preferred brand ever!

In preparation to our Nike RUN, my husband bought me a sports-band and an anti-blister socks from a NIKE shop in Alamanda, belongs to Jerasia Fashion Sdn Bhd. Little that we realized they have sizes, I only realized when we reached home..since it's already night, we thought we should just go and exchange the next day. Mind you...the socks is still in the plastic, we have not opened it.

The next day, hubby went to the shop to exchange the size....and they refused to let him exchange, the excuse is..."sorry sir it's our policy" so my husband asked them to check with the manager in case the manager can use his stable mind..and shocking...it's the same..

so my husband told them " you can keep this socks and sell it again since I'm not going to wear this, it's too small for my feet" and he left

We are extremely dissapointed the way NIKE handled the customers, I emailed NIKE malaysia to ask about the policy on the same day, but 3 mails were not answered.. not even a word.

At least their customer service should reply the mail even if they have no say of what the shop sets as their moron policy..they should have told us even if they themselves feel stupid to admit..if for hygienic reason they doesn't allow the exchange, at least they should consider those in plastics, still intact and we went back less than 24hours from the time we purchased.

Soooo..I waited for the NIKE RUN..specially because I need to talk to NIKE personnel..even better if the senior management will be there...soooo...yesterday during the RUN, at the start point, the emcee announced " we have here the marketing manager from NIKE...bla..blaa..." then I know I have something to look forward..I need to finish my run as soon as I can..and immediately I can go get that marketing manager...

So..basically that's my motivation to run faster than usual..to reach NIKE's MARKETING MANAGER...at the VIP stage

as soon as I reached the end point..I went straight to VIP stage..unfortunately, they crew couldn't locate him/her, instead another nike personnel came to see me, (dont know if he pretended he's not the manager) So I told him the story...
    • I sent 3 emails to nike@nike-email.com.my which I found in their website
    • He claimed they didnt receive any mail..and further contradicting..there's no such email address...okaaaayyy..
    • 1st - if there's no such address..why did u put it in the website (I cut and paste here the page)

it's too small..but believe me..the email address is stated there

    • 2nd - if the address doesn't exist, i should have received "bounce mail" notification
    • He claimed NIKE doesn't own any store, all of them are franchise
    • I told him I'm fully aware..I wrote to them not to claim our money..but to let them know what the store had done to tarnish their brand...
    • and i told him, I came from the industry where we have agents and dealers carry our brand..but we take 110% ownership of that brand and will go out of our way to make sure our brand is in good hand regardless which vendor or agents that carry them..bottom line is...the brand is ours!!!!!!!!!!!
    • I told him..i dont expect to get back that RM26 for a pair of socks we left to the store..we just want to be heard..that's all..and
    • The run is our last support to NIKE
Then he asked for my email address and phone number..yeaah..as if he will help..i dont even dream for them to call me...

I waited for hubby to complete his 10KM run..as soon as he finished..we left

one of the immediate action is to replace our exercise gear.............

his and hers

Anyway Mr Nike..we bid you good bye..!

Dr SMS

My favorite couple is getting married on 10.10.10

I used to look down on Dr SMS that I thought other candidates had a better chance if not because of his look plus he's not manly.....however, in 2008, my former company invited him to one of the motivational talk organized by our HR, my perception towards him changed instantly. I was totally awed by his charisma and he's extremely smart..of course plus his look laa kan?..who doesn't right? He definitely worked hard to earn that spot, nothing to do with his good look:)

And now he's marrying a lovely lady who deserved him:) Check out their pre-wedding photos..cool eh?

I'm sure being Dr Halina is not easy..being envied by many women out there.

Baked Macaroni and cheese

the ingredients : shredded cheddar cheese

I've had cheddar cheese sitting in my fridge for the past 2 months but never had a chance to make anything out of it. My sister in law gave me when she came back last time, I really wanted to try out the recipe using cheddar cheese. yesterday I googled and happened to stumble upon this recipe, i've altered a little bit according to my preference:)

WARNING : this is fattening..the amount of FAT is HUUUUGGEEE!!!

Ingredients
macaroni (1/2 packet)
1 cube of chicken stock
1/4 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons corn flour
2 cups milk

NOTE : for short cut , you may ommit Chicken stock, onion and garlic and replace with Maggi Secukup Rasa, but you need to add a little bit of salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

cook pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain.

SAUCE

To make the sauce, melt the butter or margarine over low heat, once melted, add the chopped onion, and minced garlic until it turns aromatic.
Pour the milk and stir...add in flour bit by bit and stir constantly for 2 minutes.

continue stirring until thickened.

Stir in 2 cups of the grated Cheddar cheese and stir until melted.

Combine cooked pasta, and sauce.

Pour into a casserole dish. Add the last cup of grated Cheddar cheese to top of mixture.
Bake until the cheese on top is melted and brown.

sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and ready to bake

after 20 minutes, it's now ready to serve
I love it....:)

Once a upon a time

When I read BitsandPieces 's entry one evening, immediately it brings back the memory years ago..I totally understand the fear she had:)

Well..I can say I'm the worst cook ever....having a mom who's really good in kitchen and spent most of my time away from home (sekolah berasrama penuh) and bila balik cuti sekolah..sure kena pampered tak payah masuk dapur...melonggok depan TV tunggu makanan masak macam tuan puteri..so the end result..mmg hampeeh in the kitchen..so I blame my mom for that..haa..haaa:)

The only thing I can cook well, desserts..since I have a very sweet tooth....even that when I first made the easiest cream caramel for my mother in law..gula rentung and pahit..issshhhh seriously embarassing..(tak nak ingat)

The ealier days of my marriage, to impress my husband i will get the recipes from friends and try out..and in many attempts..I will throw away and redo..so if you peeps only take 10 minutes, mine took 1 hour to complete plus yang kena buang and tumis balik etc....

But again..it takes a lot practice, practice makes perfect..well not yet perfect but at least my cooking now is edible laaa..at least to my kids and husband..haa...haaa:)

This is a beauty of what?

Drooling...the first time I saw these in a magazine last 2 months..I immediately fall in love...my favourite, the purple-pink (not sure the right term for that color)

p/s I know someone will call me shortly...."eehhhh..sudah2 laa tu..!!!"
